Functional Medicine
And Holistic Wellness

Hair loss is often the last symptom to appear. Hormones, thyroid function, nutrient stores, gut health, and inflammation are what decide whether growth can restart, and they shift long before you notice anything in the mirror. Our functional medicine approach reads those systems alongside your scalp so the plan matches the actual driver.

In Your Words

How Hair Loss Connects
To The Body

Why functional medicine goes further than a standard dermatology visit.

Hair Loss Lives In The Body. The Scalp Is Where It Shows Up.

A dermatologist examines the skin on your scalp. A functional medicine approach goes deeper: the strand, the follicle, your hormones, your nutrition, your stress load, your full hair history. Dr. Nina's protocols check every layer that topical treatments alone cannot reach.

You were treating the right area. Functional medicine just reaches the deeper layers.

Same Thinning. Six Different Drivers Our Functional Medicine Approach Identifies.

Nutritional Deficiency Iron, ferritin, zinc, vitamin D, B12. "Normal range" on a lab report is often too broad for hair. Functional medicine reads the numbers that matter for regrowth.
Chronic Stress Response Cortisol pushes follicles into early shedding and stalls regrowth for months. Functional medicine maps when the loss started against what your body was handling.
Daily Habits Sleep, hydration, tension from styling, heat use. Small habits compound. Functional medicine connects the dots so your routine supports your regrowth.
Hormone imbalance Thyroid, estrogen, androgens. When they shift, the crown and hairline show it first. Functional medicine identifies which hormones are driving the pattern.
Medication Side Effects Some prescriptions can contribute to hair loss. Functional medicine reviews everything you are taking to find what may be a factor.
Autoimmune Activity When your immune system targets your follicles, loss can come in patches or spread quickly. Functional medicine catches the pattern early and addresses the immune driver.

Before we treat, we find the trigger. And you see the evidence yourself at 200x.

What We Look At

The Internal Systems That Decide Whether Hair Grows

Each of these can hold growth back on its own. More often, two of them are working together. Functional medicine reads all of them.

Hormones Estrogen, progesterone, and androgen shifts change how long each hair stays in its growing phase. When the balance moves, density follows.
Thyroid Thyroid function sets the pace of the growth cycle. When it runs slow or fast, hair thins diffusely across the whole head.
Nutrients Iron stores, vitamin D, B12, and protein feed the follicle. Low stores can hold growth back even when everything else looks fine.
Metabolism Blood sugar and insulin influence androgen activity, one of the common drivers behind crown and part-line thinning.
Gut Health Absorption decides whether the nutrients you take in actually reach the follicle. This is often why supplements alone never move the needle.
Toxicity Load Ongoing exposures add to the body's total burden. When that burden is high, the body deprioritizes hair growth first.
Inflammation Inflammation around the follicle is one of the few drivers visible under magnification. Calming it usually has to come before regrowth work begins.
Food Reactivity Foods that quietly keep the immune system activated can keep low-grade inflammation running, showing up on the scalp before anywhere else.
Neurotransmitters Stress chemistry shifts the growth cycle in bulk. A hard season often shows up in the brush two to three months later.

What Most Pages Leave Out

When Two Different Causes Look The Same From Outside

A hormonally driven pattern and a nutrient-driven pattern can look identical in the mirror. Both give you more scalp at the part, more hair in the brush, and a thinner ponytail. From arm's length there is nothing to separate them. That is why so much time gets spent on the wrong plan.

Under 200x magnification, they separate. An androgen-driven pattern shows mixed shaft thickness in a small area, thick hairs beside noticeably finer ones, concentrated at the crown and part line. A nutrient or stress-driven shed shows hairs of even caliber thinning across the whole head, with more empty follicle openings, and it usually has a start date you can point to.

That distinction changes what is worth testing. Mixed-caliber at the crown sends us toward hormones and metabolism. Even, whole-head thinning sends us toward iron, thyroid, and what has been happening in the last three to six months. Inflammation visible around the openings changes the order entirely, because calming that comes before any growth work.

It also tells us what is honest. Where follicle openings are still intact, there is something to work with. Where the scalp shows smooth areas with no openings, that tissue has scarred and regrowth is off the table. We tell you that clearly so your time and resources go toward the areas that can respond.

Where This Leads

Conditions This Page Connects To

Treatment follows diagnosis. Once functional medicine identifies which system is driving the pattern, the right path is usually one of these.

Questions About
Functional Medicine

If your question is here, call us. You will talk to a real person.

What is functional medicine for hair loss?

Functional medicine looks at the internal systems driving your hair loss: hormones, thyroid, nutrients, gut health, inflammation, and stress. Instead of treating the scalp alone, we identify the root cause and build a plan around it.

How is functional medicine different from dermatology for hair loss?

Dermatology focuses on the skin at the scalp. Functional medicine goes deeper: the hormonal, metabolic, nutritional, and immune factors that determine whether your follicles can grow. We do both in the same visit.

What systems does the functional medicine assessment look at?

Hormones, thyroid function, iron and ferritin, vitamin D, gut health, inflammation, metabolism, toxicity load, stress chemistry, and food reactivity. Each one can hold hair growth back on its own.

Will I need blood work?

Your Discovery report may recommend specific panels based on what your scalp read and history show. We tell you which labs to request from your doctor, or we can order them here.

How long until I see results from a functional medicine approach?

It varies. Some clients see changes within 8 to 12 weeks. Full results can take 6 to 12 months depending on the driver. We photograph from fixed positions every visit so progress is measured, documented, and real.

Can functional medicine help if I have already tried everything?

Often, yes. Products and supplements address the surface. Functional medicine reaches the hormonal, metabolic, and immune layers that products cannot touch. If the driver is deeper, that is where the answer is.

Do I need a referral?

Just an appointment. Most clients come in with a concern and a question. We identify the driver in the first visit.

Do you treat men?

Yes. Thinning crowns, receding hairlines, diffuse shedding. Same functional medicine assessment process.
